Louis Overton Dean Jr. age 79 of 2512 Pecan Drive Fayetteville, died Tuesday (7/24/2012) at the North Carolina State Veterans Nursing Home in Fayetteville. He was born on October 11, 1932, son of the late Louis Overton Dean and Verna Dean Mitchell Taylor. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Margie Mitchell. He was retired from the United States Army having served in both the Korean War and Vietnam Conflict. He was a recipient of many military decorations including the Bronze Star. He also retired after 22 and 1/2 years of service to the United States Government as a civil service employee at Fort Bragg. He was a member and Past Master of Phoenix Masonic Lodge No. 8 AF&AM, Past DDGM of the 29th Masonic District, and a 33° Scottish Rite Mason and member of the Valley of New Bern Scottish Rite. He was also a member of the York Rite, A Royal Arch Mason, Member of the Sudan Shrine Temple, and many other Masonic Organizations. Graveside funeral services will be conducted at 11am Saturday with Masonic and Military Honors at the Layfayette Memorial Park with Rev. Garland Smith officiaiting. Surviving are his wife Helen "Pat" Abegglen Dean of the home; Daughters Deborah Lee Bath and husband Josef and Susan Ann Wooster and husband Don both of Fayetteville, NC; Sons Louis Overton Dean III and wife Karen of Archdale, NC and Thomas Allen Dean and wife Becky of Fayetteville, NC; Nine grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren. The family will receive friends on Saturday, immediately following the service at the family home, 2512 Pecan Drive, Fayetteville. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the North Carolina Scottish Rite Foundation, c/o the Valley of New Bern Scottish Rite , 516 Hancock Street, New Bern, NC 28560. Arrangments are by the Smith Funeral Home of Broadway.
