Weldon Joyce Phillips, age 84 of Broadway, died Thursday (4/26/2012) at Central Carolina Hospital in Sanford. He was born on August 7, 1927 son of the late William Franklin Phillips and Jessie Joyce Phillips. He was preceded in death by his parents, Brothers Howard Phillips, Harold Phillips, Bill Phillips, Norman Phillips, Rev. Jimmy Phillips and Sister Edith P. Frye. He was a Veteran of the United States Army and was an Elder and member of the Broadway Presbyterian Church. Graveside funeral services with military honors will be conducted at 11am Saturday at the Shallow Well Church Cemetery with Rev. Steve Johnson and Rev. Garland Smith officiating. Surviving are his sister Ruby Phillips of Sanford, NC; Brothers Travis Phillips and wife Betty, Gene Phillips and wife Anne and Melvin Phillips and wife Margaret all of Sanford, NC and extended family, the Ernest Thomas family; several neices and nephews. The family will receive friends from 4-5pm, Friday afternoon at the Smith Funeral Home in Broadway. Arrangments are by the Smith Funeral Home of Broadway.
